The event is being organized by Northern Ontario District along with Cross Country Ontario will be held at Ben Avery Building, Laurentian University Sudbury, Ontario Friday May 2nd, 2008 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm Cost: $25.00 per person. Launch of Feel the Rush 2008

The "Feel the Rush 2008," a Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) campaign celebrating winter and summer Paralympic sports has been launched. Their goal is to increase the number of Canadians with a disability who "feel the rush" of confidence and empowerment that comes with enjoying sport on a daily basis, some of whom will continue on to become high performance athletes and support Canada retaining its top medal winning position at future Paralympic Games. **Update - Soo Finish Race Distances

ImageSoo Finnish Nordic announces a change to the race distances for the Hiawatha Invitational. Midget boys and Midget girls will race 4KM, not 5KM as previously indicated. The 4KM distance applies to both the skate and freestyle events. Midget and Mini-midget racers from NOD are reminded that this is the qualifying event for participation in the Ontario Winter Games in March. One Juvenile boy and one Juvenile girl will also qualify for the Ontario Winter Games by winning at Hiawatha on January 26-27.

 
Ontario Winter Games - NOD Qualification Criteria

Cross Country Ontario will coordinate the participation of 120 Nordic skiers at the 2008 Ontario Winter Games. The Nordic events of these games will be hosted by Highlands Nordic in Duntroon. Races will be held March 6 and 7. March 5 is a training day. Each of the fours Districts of Cross Country Ontario (Lake Superior Ski District; Northern Ontario District, National Capital District and Southern Ontario District) is invited to send 30 athletes. NOD has selected the Hiawatha Invitational, January 26-27 at Soo Finnish Nordic, as the selection race for determining its complement of athletes for the Ontario Winter Games. Devon Kershaw 12th in Rybinsk World Cup

ImageSudbury's Devon Kershaw turned in the best distance World Cup result of his career in the a 30km skate over the weekend in Rybinsk, Russia. Even more impressive was the fact that Kershaw was less than 6 seconds behind the winner in what was a mad scramble to the finish. Registration is available at zone4.ca. Deadline for early registration is Midnight, Saturday February 16th at which point fees will go up. Final deadline for registration is Midnight, Thursday February 21st at which point registration will close. No registrations will be accepted after this point.

David Nighbor at World Cup Races in Dûsseldorf

ImageNorth Bay's own David Nighbor competed at the first World Cup Event of the season in Dûsseldorf over the Oct 28th and 29th weekend. "The world’s best cross-country skiers who descended on the downtown streets of Dûsseldorf battled warm conditions, with temperatures climbing to 11 Celcius, and slushy man-made snow for the opening World Cup event of the season.

North Bay Nordic Training Camp Report August 2007

ImageNorth Bay Nordic’s former Junior Racer and now, National Team Member, Dave Nighbor was in town to help athletes develop their skills for the coming Cross Country Ski season. Dave took time from his busy schedule to run a training camp for the junior racers of his club and also invited athletes from across Northern Ontario to join in.
